What is "Bounty Hunter"?

Welcome pirates to the first edition of our article "Bounty Hunter" where we review some of the highest bounties for One Piece cards, and decide if they're truly power scaled, or a fraud.

The goal of these articles is to help players recognize which cards in their bulk may be worth trading, or cashing in for some other goodies.

Collect those bounties and use those extra berries to:

  • max rarity your decks
  • finally complete that deck you've been wanting to play
  • grab some post-locals 0-X consolation shawarma

Why look at OP01 right now? One word - Reprints.

Some of you may not have been following the news but there are a few ways that Bandai will be tackling the issues of low supply and high demand for old cards.

  • New Starter decks (ST15-S20) [Source]
    • These starter decks are set to release in October 2024 in the West, and July 2024 in the East.
    • Spoilers for these decklists are expected to start releasing over the next month.
    • They are slated to be out-of-the-box playable decks for popular leaders from the last few metas.
  • Treasure Booster Sets [Source]
    • This product will be similar to a double pack and contain mixtures of booster packs from previous sets.
    • Although not a full scale reprint, it still means there will be new MSRP options for old boosters.

Last but...certainly not least, the most anticipated source of reprints...

PRB-01 -PREMIUM BOOSTER - "ONE PIECE CARD THE BEST"

  • PRB-01 or "PREMIUM BOOSTER - ONE PIECE CARD THE BEST"
    • This product will be a collection of the best cards from the previous sets with all-new alt arts as well!
    • For those who have been dreading the prices of Katakuris, Borsalinos, Eustass Kids -- this set is for you
    • This product is expected to release towards the end of July in Japan, so it will come out just two short weeks after the release of the new starter decks
    • Which also means, similarly to the new Starter Decks, we should begin seeing spoilers soon

Without further ado, which cards are the most overpriced from OP01?

Note: ATH = all time high

1. Eustass "Captain" Kid [OP01-051] 44.31USD

[OP01-051] Eustass "Captain" Kid

Historical ATH: 44.87 USD , Current Price = 98.75% of ATH

This card is one of the most consistently leveraged bombs for Green, even more so than 10-cost Donquixote Doflamingo. Its ability is incredibly powerful and gives Green a late game strategy that punishes opponents for pressuring your life too quickly, or allowing you to draw too many cards.

This card has literally never been more expensive than it is right now, and is a necessity in Uta decks that have been topping OP06, and Bonney decks that have been topping OP07.

At a whopping market price of 44.31 USD, and with reprint spoilers coming soon, it's your choice what you would like to do with yours!

2. You can be my Samurai! [OP01-055] 0.90USD

Article image

Historical ATH: 0.90 USD , Current Price = 100% of ATH

What a weird card to be talking about! Last we saw this card see play was for Red/Green Law back in OP02, but here we are again.

This card has recently risen back in popularity as we've seen some Peronas in OP07 find success with Wano cards, and some speculation around the strong synergy between it and the Otama searcher for other Green decks in OP07.

Any copy you find in your bulk is going to be 0.90 USD, which doesn't seem like a lot, but seeing how this is a common, you'll likely find quite a few in your bulk to trade in for dollar drinks

3. Donquixote Doflamingo [OP01-073] 5.72USD

Article image

Historical ATH: 5.59 USD , Current Price = 102.33% of ATH

This card has a pretty fun history amongst old school blue decks, as it's played in decks like OP01 Blue Doffy, OP02 Ivankov, and OP04 Queen. Being able to fix your next draws and setup future top-deck combos is just incredibly powerful.

Looking forward it's still leveraged in these decks, and will also be used in OP07 Boa, but still not sure what's driving the price to be so expensive, aside from being a staple and potential OP08 Marco speculation. It's literally the most expensive rare in OP01.

At 5.72 USD a copy, you can decide what to do with it, but this card's value has never been higher

4. Otama [OP01-006] 6.95 USD

Article image

Historical ATH: 7.56 USD , Current Price = 91.93% of ATH

Best. 2k Counter. In. The. Game. That's all.

This card was an absolute terror back in the days of the Red-dominant meta. It basically gave Red access to resource-efficient board clears all throughout the game, while otherwise acting as a 2k counter.

This card literally won the "Most Reliable Card" poll that Bandai held which resulted in an alt art for the anniversary collection alongside Marco and Makino in the 1st Anniversary Set

Despite only being an Uncommon from OP01, it comes in at a whopping 6.95 USD making it more expensive than even the most expensive rare from OP01

5. Radical Beam!! [OP01-029] - 4.32USD

Article image

Historical ATH: 4.87 USD , Current Price = 88.71% of ATH

The most feared red counter for such a long time that it saw restrictions that would limit players to just a single copy.

This card despite no longer having the same terrifying reputation it used to, still found its way to the second-most expensive uncommon of OP01.

Infamy seems to follow our cyborg pirate no matter where he goes or how much time passes.

At a price of 4.32 USD, do what you will!

6. Izo [OP01-033] - 4.10USD

Article image

Historical ATH: 4.86 USD , Current Price = 84.36% of ATH

For quite some time, Green had some slim pickings when it came to 2k Counters with good effects. Izo was the saving grace as the ability to rest a 4-cost or less for 3x DON!! could help you clear board or go for lethals.

This card still often sees play today, and got a reprint in Tournament Pack Vol. 2. It'll also get another reprint in Premium Card Collection -BANDAI CARD GAMES Fest. 23-24 Edition-

With so many copies both from OP01 and the Tournament Pack Vol. 2, this thing is still at 4.10 USD, and TP Vol. 2 versions are at 4.85 USD

7. Kozuki Momonosuke [OP01-041]

Article image

Historical ATH: 4.96 USD , Current Price = 83.87% of ATH

Kozuki Momonosuke was one of the staple cards for OP02 Kinemon. It gave the deck early-game consistency, late-game card draw, and at worse acted as a pseudo-blocker forcing opponents to swing into it to deny value. Looking forward, it's likely to be used in conjunction with any deck leveraging the Wano package.

This card is seeing reprints in the new Tournament Pack Vol. 7, so we're pretty surprised to see the OP01 copy still so expensive

At 4.16 USD per copy, and ritzier versions coming out soon, you might want to dig up your old school ones.

Final Note from us, OPTCG.GG

I want to remind everyone that Trading Card Games are not a substitute for financial planning, nor is this information meant to be used for you to try and "play the stock market" -- to us that's a profoundly silly way to spend your time and money.

The purpose of these articles is to tell the story of what is happening in our card game's ecosystem through the lens of numbers, while providing transparency and information for our more frugal players.

Some of these cards may not be loved by all, and by selling them, folks may be able to afford buying cards for a deck they really want to play, or alternatively, they may recognize these cards are too expensive to buy and opt for alternatives.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read through and supporting us!
